Effect of Sucrose Solution on Osmosis Essays - 1012 Words
Effect of Sucrose Solution on Osmosis Aim: The aim of the experiment is to show how varying the concentration of sucrose solution affects osmosis by changing different molar solutions of sucrose and water and how it affects the potato. Introduction: In this investigation I will be exploring the effect of varying concentration of sucrose sugar solution on the amount of activity between the solution and the potatoes. Osmosis is the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a high water concentration to a low water concentration. Osmosis can be effected different things such as: - Temperature - The warmer the solution, the quicker the osmosis will go. This is because the waterâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The potato cells, took in, or gave out the water depending on the concentration of the solution it is surrounded in. The results were fine and by looking at the mass measured before the experiment, you can see that there is no reading which seems to be out of the line. As the weights before the experiment range between 2.31g and 2.46g, this tells us that the potato pieces were cut well, and I believe accurate enough. The results show that: - Osmosis actually took place in the experiment. - As the sucrose solution increased, the mass decreased, and as the sucrose solution decreased, the mass increased Evaluation: I followed the plan correctly; I believe I gained accurate and sufficient enough results to conclude the experiment, and to prove my prediction. To make this experiment better, I believe that I could have done more than one experiments to see if anything has gone wrong, but sinceShow MoreRelated The effect of osmosis in potato cells with different concentrations of sucrose solution1887 Words à |à 8 PagesThe effect of osmosis in potato cells with different concentrations of sucrose solution Aim: To test the effect of different concentrations of sucrose solution to osmosis in a potato cells by putting potato pieces in test tubes of water containing different concentrations of sucrose solution. Scientific Theory: Osmosis is defined as the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentrationRead MoreThe Effect Of Osmosis On O Shelled Chicken Eggs On Different Percentages Of Sucrose Solutions992 Words à |à 4 Pagespurpose to this experiment was to study the effect of osmosis in de-shelled chicken eggs in different percentages of sucrose solutions. Osmosis is the process, in which, water moves across a differentially permeable membrane. The eggs were soaked in vinegar to remove the outside hard shell but still leave the egg in its membrane. By placing the six de-shelled in different sucrose solutions, we tested the rate of osmosis. The eggs were placed in the solutions for an hour and weighed in fifteen minuteRead MoreEgg Osmosis Using Deshelled Chicken Eggs1016 Words à |à 5 PagesEgg Osmosis Using ââ¬Å"Deshelledâ⬠Chicken Eggs Martekka Crawford India Williams Desiree Counts Mark Beckford Biology 1611-Sec 348 Dr. M. Jones September 17, 2015 Georgia Perimeter College- Decatur Introduction The osmolarity of a solution is the concentration measured of a solute. To determine the concentration of a solution, one must first understand what osmosis is and how it works. Osmosis is the spontaneous passage or diffusion of water or other solvents through a semipermeable membrane accordingRead MoreThe Effect Of Solute Concentration On Osmosis1529 Words à |à 7 PagesThe Effects of Solute Concentration on Osmosis Introduction: Diffusion is the movement of certain molecules toward the direction of equilibrium, and is an important process in eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Osmosis is a specific type of diffusion that refers to the diffusion of water, which is an important factor in many types of cells without cell walls because the water potential of a cell must be similar or equal to its environment in order for the cell to function properly. In cells, a semiRead MoreLab Report Osmosis Essay1683 Words à |à 7 PagesThe effect of osmosis on artificial cells with different concentrations of sucrose Alex McRae Biology 120-902 Grand Valley State University 1 Campus Drive Allendale, MI 49401 mcraeal@mail.gvsu.edu Abstract In this study, we tested the validity of osmosis in artificial animal cells. Osmosis is the diffusion of free water across a membrane. The purpose of the study was to calculate the rate of osmosis in artificial cells containing differentRead MoreFactors Affecting the Movement of Water Through Osmosis1614 Words à |à 7 PagesFactors affecting the movement of water through osmosis Introduction In this I will be investigating what effects the movement of water through osmosis. Osmosis is the diffusion of water. It is the process in which fluids pass through a partially-permeable membrane. It is the movement of water from high water concentration to low water concentration. Plant cells react to osmosis by hypertonic, isotonic and hypotonic. I will use these values to find the solute potential by using the calibration graph. I will work out the water potential by using theRead MoreThe Effect Of Sucrose Concentration On The Rate Of Osmosis Essay1133 Words à |à 5 PagesOsmosis Haley Klanke BIO 120 923 Grand Valley State University klankeh@mail.gvsu.edu Abstract In this study we constructed we researched whether different sucrose concentrations affect the rate of osmosis. In order to do this, we constructed artificial cells out of dialysis tubing filled with 20% sucrose and 40% sucrose and weighed them every 10 minutes for 90 minutes. In doing so, we concluded that the higher the sucrose concentration, the faster the rate of osmosis. This is important in the control of the ever changing external environment to the cell. The transfer of materials to and from the cell thus needs a very stable mechanism to achieve this status. Cells are therefore bound a membrane that actsRead MoreThe Phenomena Of Osmosis, Discovered By Rjh Dutrochet979 Words à |à 4 PagesBackground information The phenomena of osmosis, discovered by RJH Dutrochet in 1826, has been a significant area of interest in biology since. Osmosis is the process of diffusing water molecules through a selectively permeable membrane to dilute solutions with high concentrations of solutes until that solution has the same concentration as the solution on the other side of the membrane (Freeman, n.d., p. 96-99). An important component of osmosis is diffusion, which is when molecules or ions in
